The Arts Council of Oklahoma City recently voted to move the annual Festival of the Arts, largely due to the demolition of Stage Center and plans to build on the site.
In 2016, the festival will be moved back to the Civic Center area just in time for its 50th anniversary. The festival began in 1967 at Civic Center Park and has been held at Myriad Botanical Gardens since 1984.
“We’re really excited to be considering moving over here to Bicentennial Park. This is just going to be a really excellent opportunity to display all the artists’ tents around the park and to include the performing arts areas. It should just make an excellent site for the festival,” Peter Dolese, executive director of Arts Council of OKC, told NewsOK.com.
Festival planners will spend the next year and a half working out tent placement, electrical needs and general logistics of holding the festival in a new place.
